Maybe I can help a little with the Text manipulation. Take your TEXT and create outlines by right clicking. Then grab your direct selection tool from the tool palate (it is the arrow on the top right) and click the area you want to extend, ie: the bottom of the X, you will then see some anchor points, just grab one with your left mouse button and drag and release. To curl it use the warp tool and just nudge it a little. Hope that helps you.

PS – Could you do a tutorial on how to manipulate (re-shape) each font separately in a word? For example, the word “TEXT”, I’d like to extend the bottom end of one of the X strokes and lengthen it and perhaps curl it. You get the picture
