In this video i show you 2 ways to apply motion blur to an image of a stationary car to make it looks like it is moving. This tutorial uses the free software called GIMP which has many of the same controls as adobe photoshop and also with its easy use of layermasks makes it more simple than adobe photoshop elements. This is not a case of cheating photography but enhancing your images post produciton. I will also show you how to make the car stand out even more after applying motion blur. Hope this helps kind regards dom please subscribe www.dombower.com

Which one in ur opinion is better? Gimp vs Photoshop??
I’ve got Photoshop and was hoping to achieve the same effect with it instead.

I have Gimp 2,4,4 on my pc but when i have the car showing i only get a box around the car , like when you should crop it . Can be my mistake or maybe the programme that doesn`t allow me to do anything but crop when the car is showing .

this is just a way to enhance a photo not how to make a blurred photo. this was not a professional shoot, this was a car that was parked in my parents drive way. if you want to see my car shots check out flickr dombower83

ok, nice to see how to work with gimp…
But why don’t you just use a rig? Would look 100% more authentic and its (imo) less work. Your car pics look like, uh, i used a computer to do this. A rig shot looks like, wow, the car WAS moving.
Ok, still a nice how to and for some pics it might be useful, but with cars.. sorry, i think those pictures don’t look professional in any way. And your (possibly) a professional photographer. I’m just a hobby photographer.

Excellent video, thank you! I have learnt so much in 5 minutes it’s unbelievable.
I have a question about the motion blur though.
Is there a way to stop the motion blur happening to the edges of the car?
For example, I just edited a picture of an Audi R8 going around a track at speed which I took last week and when I did the above technique the wing mirrors and front bumper were also very blurred which kind of ruined the image. I noticed it happened a little with the wheels in this video too.

You don’t have to use the eraser tool, just swap the colors (from black to white) and the result will be the same
