09.18.10Some Tips For If You Are Starting A New Freelance Web Design Project.
There are one hundred and one things to consider when beginning a new web design project as a web designer. A good starting point to help you understand the project is to make sure that you do plenty of research. Getting an overview of your client’s industry will enable you to understand what type of website they require and also know what their competitors’ websites are like. Unless you have worked in your client’s industry then the only way to get a real feel for the type of site they need, is to do research to help you determine how the project will go forward.
Your research might be as simple as just looking at other websites in the field you are working on or may become as complex as in-depth market research involving focus groups and customer surveys. The level of research will be determined by the budget that you and your client allocates to this part of the project, but it is always worth spending some time doing this to give yourself a good start to the project.
Brainstorming is a good way to start the design process going. You can come up with a few different ideas for the site and start to develop the better ideas into the main project. Often ideas as they are developed will become unrealistic and you may decide to move away from one particular idea and revisit one of the other ideas you can up with initially. Website designs are generally decided by the type of interface and the content of the site. For example if you are designing a news site then you might look at using more traditional layout and navigation system so it is user friendly and people can easily see how to use it. If you have a more unconventional product or service to produce the site for then you might have a bit more freedom to experiment with a different design or interface that challenges the normal rules for a site.
Freelance web designers have several different ways to produce a website. The platform used to support the website has to be within budget and has to be able to be produced within the time frame of the project. There are generally three main different platforms that are used to produce a website, these are Content Management Systems (CMS), Flash and Basic HTML. Once you have come to a decision over the design of the site then you can decide which of these platforms would be most suitable to use to support your site.
Flash sites are developed using Adobe Flash. They work well when you are thinking of using a lot of multimedia rich or animated sites. They can look really great and the layout can be relatively easy however development can take a long time to complete. Basic HTML allows for very quick development times and can mean you can edit each page of the site to give you a great deal of flexibility. Despite the ease of initial development this platform may mean a lot of ongoing maintenance of the site once live, and can be difficult for non-developers to understand. CMS can be developed from scratch or can be purchased off the self. It is also possible to use sites such as WordPress and Blogger to get a free online CMS that can be developed for your clients needs. These platforms are good in that they can allow the designer to have control over the design of the site but the client can then easily add content and look after the site once it is live. As a freelance web developer you have a lot of different choices to make during the development.
Once you have decided on a basic design and platform for the project then it is useful to get all the ideas down on paper so you can discuss them fully with your clients. It is helpful if you can discuss each section of the site and what will be on each page and discuss the types of features on the site such as comments, social networking, video, newsletter sign-up and any other types of functionality. If you can present these things to the client then it will not only give you chance to get your ideas straight in your own head but will also give them chance to make alterations as they see if and add or alter sections if they need to.
Once you have presented these things to your client you can then ask for approval of the project and come to an agreement over the final budget for the project along with a timescale for production. Agreeing on a budget at this stage of approval of the project will hopefully avoid any additional fees later in the project and will get any objections or differences of opinion out in the open early on. Hope fully if you can stick to this process then you should be able to get on with your projects and provide your clients with the best possible website for them.

Learn PhotoShop Online – Basic PhotoShop Tutorials for PhotoShop Interface
If you’re trying to learn PhotoShop online from PhotoShop Tutorials , the best place to start is with the graphic user interface (GUI). PhotoShop’s GUI is broken into five sections that are presented in this PhotoShop Basic Tutorial.
The first section is probably the most familiar. It is called the menu bars, which like most programs, are found, at the top of the interface. The menu bar allows you to access different menus to perform all of PhotoShop’s various functions such as saving, resizing, layers, filters, and more. Although you can find everything you need in the menu bar, there are many shortcuts you can access or even create to save you time.
The second section, going downward, is the options bar. This bar changes as you select different tools, but basically it is where you can refine the tools with different options (hence the name) into what you most need. For instance, this is where you would make your brushes bigger or smaller.
Below the options bar is the Tools. As the name suggests, this is where you can find all of the tools that you need to create your digital masterpieces. The tool bar has many fun items to be explored like the magic lasso tool or all of your different brushes. There are keyboard shortcuts that can be used or created to access most of these tools.
To the far right is the Palette walled where there are different boxes to help give you information. This includes the info palette, the history palette, as well as other palettes that help you control you composition. One of the important palettes you can find here is the layer comps palette, which basically tells you what, is on each layer of the composition.
Finally, there is the document window or composition, which is usually in the middle or sometimes on another screen (if you’re using multiple monitors). This is where you control and work on your creations, so it’s basically like your digital canvas.
In order to learn PhotoShop online from PhotoShop Tutorials you need to be familiar with the interface. This will make it easy for you to follow the different videos or courses you use. If you’re unsure of what course to use, I recommend PhotoShop by Example, which is a great way to quickly master the basics of PhotoShop.
