How To Make Digital Art
A long time ago, people never dreamed that their drawings could be any more than what they were, simple artwork on a flat surface. Today there are many careers that incorporate drawing and computers or other types of mediums and the computers. There are many different classes and online courses taught on how to make digital art for those who are extremely artistic and those who don’t know that much about drawing or other art forms.
Several of the better known art school alumni have participated in various artistic designs using a computer. Graphic design and web design are but two of the many ways one could use their artistic and creative talents to produce beautiful, meaningful works of art with a computer or camera. One of the most popular computer generated pieces of artwork needed today is animation and 3d animation for advertising, movies and television.
One of the other popular artistic design areas that a lot of people don’t think about is sound engineering. This is also computer made by artists. Music and sounds could be considered artwork, especially if they are accompanied by photos or other types of visual artwork. Commercials or radio and television could have a sound recording laid over them to make some of the still photos come ‘alive’. Sound engineering is a growing business and people who are musically inclined would work well in this field. They could learn the computer information from a school or trained professional.
Another popular art form that seems to be taking over a lot of people’s spare time is photography. People like to hold a moment in the palm of their hand and they can do this with the help of a photograph. Then they can take that photo and scan it into the computer and add colors, flowers, other people, a different background and all kinds of things to make the photograph something it was not in the beginning.
There are several different computer software programs that will allow an artist to maneuver a photograph into something that is either completely different or unrecognizable or something a little more subtle then what it was originally. When it comes to computer generated artwork, people may think of the famous print of Marilyn Monroe which has four of the same photos only in different colors or tones. This painting was done by Andy Worhal and not a computer but the idea is the same.
A child’s homemade drawing, a photograph or print could each be scanned through a regular scanner into a home computer and run through a software program to make it into something of a beautiful piece of artwork. There are many different ways to widen or shorten a picture so that the colors are running together or separated and this will change the entire look of a photo, giving an individual a new piece of artwork.
Computer animation and generating art with a computer is good for a lot of people because it is easier and not messy like other mediums of art. Paints, pen, pencils, oils and acrylics can all end up getting a person dirty. An additional benefit of using computer graphics to generate artwork is that the computer is more forgiving then the canvas. The erase button is easier to use than trying to paint over something of a bright color or a mistake with a pencil.
When a person wants to learn about the computer world of digital art or how to make digital art for fun and profit, they could attend photography schools in Canada or one online. For either type of photography school, there is financial aide or grants available to qualified students to help pay for this type of education. Some of these courses will help a graduate find a job in the field that works with computers and art.

What Is Digital Art And What Courses Are Available?
What is digital art? In simple terms, it refers to any piece of work that is either created by computer or uses a computer in the process of creating the piece. Effectively a lot of recent artwork is what can be defined in this way.
If you are looking to apply to an art school, you may be interested in a course that utilizes computer programs. This can equally apply to sound engineering, graphic design and so forth. While people can point to the competitive nature of getting a career in art, animation and so forth, this does not diminish the importance of learning the structure and self discipline that comes with studying and specializing in a field.
There is a wide variety of digital artwork, covering everything from films to music. In some cases, it may not be immediately obvious that computers have been involved. For example, the television animation series South Park may appear to be based on crude paper cut outs but it is in fact animated exclusively on a computer.
If you want to create your own works on a computer, it is reassuring that the technology available has become cheaper and more easily accessible. More Hollywood and independent films are being shot on digital film. The advantage of this is that you can shoot scenes for longer, without having to worry about wasting expensive 33mm stock.
In recent years, artists have used video game programming to subvert the very goal orientated medium that Roger Ebert refers to. A recent example began like a typical problem solving puzzle game, asking the gamer to guide people onto a train, ensuring they can get in, prising open doors and so forth. It is only at the end of the game that it is revealed that these people are being taken to a concentration camp. This then provokes a reaction in the gamer, a stark and disturbing reminder of the power of instruction.
Another example of this a process known as rotoscoping, where a live action scene has animation imposed on top of it. This process was most recently featured in the Richard Linklater films Waking Life and A Scanner Darkly and was an effective way of presenting the alienation of the characters involved.
In recent years, more artists have created what is known as arthouse games, using the mechanics of video games to make a philosophical point. Even mainstream games such as Grand Theft Auto and Metal Gear Solid have been praised for their post modern references to video game violence!
Hyper realistic programs combine both the traditional and the photo realistic, rotoscoping being an example of this. It is worth looking online to see what is available. While there is a wide range of programs available for purchasing online you can also find what are known as open source programs that are free to download.
There are various digital art websites where people can upload their works and provide each other feedback. Art schools offer classes in a wide range of digital art, everything from computer animation to sound engineering. For more information, you should contact your local art institute to find out about the classes available in your area.
