Free Photo Editing Software – Five Recommended Programs For Image Editing

Posted by admin on January 19th, 2010 and filed under photo editing | No Comments »

If you have read my article, Free photo editing Software – What Features Should I Look For, then you will have some ideas of tools that are available. Although there are many editing programs available, I have used quite a few. These below are ones that I would recommend. They are all free.

Paint.net

This software is pretty straight forward and easy to use. It also offers some advanced features, such as layers and curves. It’s resizing screen showing your image only appears after you do a save. This is not bad, as long as you are aware of it.

Irfanview

Know mostly as an image viewer, Irfanview is an editor also. It has a multitude of features, such as batch resize and being able to change thumbnail sizes when viewing your images. It also offers a huge amount of image file types if you want to change the extension of a photo.

That being said, I find this program to be the most confusing to use. I do not use it regularly. I would assume that if I did, I would get used to it. It does, however, have a lot to offer.

FastStone Image Viewer

Again, great as an image viewer with some very useful features. I like that you can view both images, the original and a duplicate for editing, together. Once you have enlarged a photo to take up the full screen, various options are available by moving your mouse to the top, bottom, left or right parts of the screen.

For example, go to the top of the screen and a thumbnail strip of all of your images in that folder will appear. You can click on any image and it will then be the full screen photo. This is a useful tool, allowing you to work with a full screen image and easily see your other pics in the folder.

Web Resizer

This is actually a website. It’s strong feature is how it resizes pictures, but you can also do some simple edits. It is very easy to use. It clearly shows what your image will look like by comparing different file sizes for the same picture. Upload a photo to work with it, and then download it to save it on your computer.

Picasa 3

Picasa 3 is photo editing software, but it also offers some other things. As an editor, it has a wide range of tools, divided into three categories. It’s other features are that it is an image viewer and organizer. You can also send your digital photos to an online printer. If you choose to use Picasa Web Albums as an online photo sharing site (and for storage), you can sync it with Picasa 3 so that edits and changes made in Picas 3 will automatically be made in Picasa Web Albums.

You can download any of these free programs and try them out. Although none does everything, you will most likely find one that meets most of your needs.

With the huge development in the web world and Internet strength enhancing by leaps and bounds, images have taken a new dimension altogether.  Images have become extremely important for any type of display, including messages, news, articles, advertising, and even blog writing. It is rightly said that an image is worth a thousand words.

The greatest advantage of photographs or images is that people across the globe can clearly understand them irrespective of their linguistic or ethnic backgrounds.  Every one understands the significance of the images in much better manner than words. No wonder people have started showing keen interest in the world of photographs and making the photographs professional by using photo editing software.

Convey your message in a professional way

It may be unfortunate but in most cases the users do not understand how to use the images to their best effects.  Thus you will find most of the images online having an amateurish look that does not serve the purpose for which they were floated.  Rather many of them result in reverse effects resulting in failure of the mission for which they were set up.

The best way to make your photos look professional is to use the best photo editing software through which you can create your own customized patterns.  If the editor provides full alpha transparency and channel support, it would be best suited for the professionals as well as beginners.  Loading and saving animations for future editing is another welcome feature in the best editors you have. Well, it is not difficult to customize your photographs, since most of the software comes with full comprehensive instruction sets.  Many manufacturers have also set up their 24/7 online helpline to assist the customers and to answer their queries.

Adobe Photoshop Software: The Latest and Greatest Version 7

Posted by admin on January 19th, 2010 and filed under adobe photoshop | No Comments »

As an aspiring digital photographer, I’ve always enjoyed uploading my photos to my computer and playing around with them in photo editing software. I’ve found that I can make my good photos even better, and often times I can salvage a boring, hum-drum photo into something that’s really worthwhile. There are a lot of different photo editing software suites out there, from the ultra-basic programs bundled with Microsoft Windows to professional-level software programs running hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Though there are a lot of options, Adobe Photoshop software has become the standard for many photographers, both amateur and professional, for good reason.

Though it’s sometimes tough to keep track of all of the different versions of adobe photoshop software (there have been more than ten), all of them share some of the same characteristics. This is especially true after Photoshop 7, since most later generations of the software have focused mainly on fine-tuning the software suite without introducing any major, earth-shattering changes. One of the key aspects of Adobe Photoshop software is that Photoshop makes it quick and easy to take care of most of the common tasks people want their photo editing software to do. Cropping a photo takes a couple seconds, as does adjusting the light levels, brightness, or contrast within a photo. Even my parents, who describe themselves as being inept with computer software on the whole, manage to crop and adjust their photos quickly and easily. They’re also fond of the different filters or effects Photoshop can apply to photos, from lithograph effects to embossing to solarization, almost any visual effect is only a couple clicks away.

Though many other photo editing programs make simple photo manipulation easy, what really sets Adobe Photoshop software apart from other photo editing programs is the ease of using its more advanced features. Selective color allows the user to home in on one particular color range, be it blues, greens, yellows, etc., and adjust its relative intensity. Editing levels, saturation, and even color curves is also a snap, and Photoshop renders the colors of photos so well it’s often nearly impossible to tell that the photo has been altered when comparing shots before and after editing, aside from the fact that the “after” photo is usually sharper, better balanced, and more colorful.

Though Adobe Photoshop software is usually expensive, especially for the most recent version, past versions of the software can usually be tracked down for a reasonable price. Whatever it costs, Photoshop’s cost can be easily justified when looking at the great photos it eventually produces.

Adobe Photoshop and Elements Software Difference Versions

Posted by admin on January 19th, 2010 and filed under adobe photoshop | No Comments »

Adobe has been able to create the elite in photo editing software at all user levels, but unfortunately everything seem very complicated at first, and even choosing the right software often seems a daunting task. The basic rules are that Adobe Elements is for beginners and Adobe Photoshop is better suited for more advanced users.

Step 2 is normally deciding which PS or PSE version will best be suited to your particular photo editing needs, but you would actually be surprised at just how similar each version is, although the latest edition has always got something new added. Personally I think that any Elements version will meet a newbie users needs, but when it comes to the more advanced Photoshop software, you may find the latest version for suited to an advanced Photoshop users needs

Currently the latest Photoshop version is Photoshop CS4, which has made great advances with added new tools that will produce the most amazing results. The Photoshop software is a lot more expensive than the Elements, so even a more advanced photo editor might find the new Photoshop Elements 7 is perfectly suitable, easier and a lot cheaper. The new functions include an excellent photo organizer and an extensive online component for Digital photo sharing as well as excellent online backup.

adobe photoshop Elements 7 provides two main functions, many of which can be found in Photoshop CS4, so if these functions are all you need remember that Elements 7 will mean big savings.

First of all there is the Organizer which allows you to view thumbnails and perform very basic photo editing and then you have the Editor, where gives total access to all of the photo editing functions. The Editor is simple to manage and allows “Guided Fixes”, which basically comprises of Wizards that walk you through step by step photo edits. The “Quick Fixes” calculate the optimum way to fix colors, lighting, and sharpness calculated upon either your input with sliders or whatever PE7 sees fit.

The Organizer is the easiest section to deal with on Adobe Elements 7, with tools like Auto Color and Auto Contrast. Things get a little more interesting though when you start to use the Auto Smart Fix tool that will allow you to transform poor quality images into photos worthy of a professional with just the click of a button.

In fact, there are tools in this photo editing software that will even turn simple photographs in to amazing gifts that everyone will love.

In the meantime, there are fun tools in Adobe Photoshop that will be able to help you learn the basics on how to edit photos.

Here are some of the basic tools that you can use in Photoshop that will let you have a lot of fun and also help you learn the ropes about photo editing.

There are warping tools in Adobe Photoshop that will enable you to manipulate the subject in a particular photo. For example, if you don’t like the way you look in a particular photograph because of the bulging belly, then you can use the warping tool in order to make yourself look thinner. In fact, if you master this tool, you can make that particular photo look as if you go to the gym everyday.

Another tool is the smudge tool. This is another basic photo editing tool that you will use constantly. If you have a close up picture of your face or any face, and there are imperfections in the face such as scars, pimples and wrinkles, you can remove them with the smudge tool. This will make the subject’s face look smoother and also younger.

The lasso tool is another tool that you will find very amusing. What this tool does is let you select a particular part of the picture and let you cut it. For example, if you are standing in your bedroom, you can easily select your whole body in the photograph with the lasso tool and cut it. Then you can paste the object you cut on another background, such as behind the Arc de Triumph in France or behind the famous windmills in Netherlands.

There are also great effects that you can use on your photographs. Just go to the filter menu and you will find different effects that you can put in your photograph. For example, if you want your photograph to look as if it was painted with watercolor, you can easily do so by selecting the water color effect on the filter menu in the artistic sub menu.

You can even insert text on your photographs if you want with the text tool. With this, you can put some captions in your photograph. Also, there are tools that you can use that will be able to remove the things that you don’t like to be included in your photograph. For example, a trash can, a stranger posing behind a great group picture of your family or friends, or you can even erase someone in the group that you don’t like.

These are the great things that you can do with adobe photoshop. As you can see, there are so many things that you will be able to do with this photo editing software. Once you master the basics, you will be able to find out a lot more things that you will be able to do with Adobe Photoshop.

Which Photo Editing Software is Best for You?

Posted by admin on January 15th, 2010 and filed under photo editing | No Comments »

Oddly enough, there are a very few top notch photo editing software being offered to the market today. There are many packages offered, but a vast majority is not really worth the dollar regardless of how little they are selling for. Generally $50-99.99 is a rule of thumb to find the best photo editing.

Photo software capabilities

As of July 2007, the top ten photo software packages cover the spectrum of capabilities that an advanced or beginning editor might need. Considering the myriad of capabilities available it would be difficult to address each but, generally, the categories that define these capabilities include:

• Importing

• Editing

• Sharing

• Organizing

• Editing

• Support

• Configurations

While indicating which software package has the best photo editing would be difficult, because all offer the same capability to a degree, it is safe to say that they all do the job adequately. The issue just comes down to which package has the right “feel” for your needs.

Organization

The one area where your particular tastes may warrant a closer look is the organizing function. The temptation in digital picture taking is that the photographer snaps a picture of anything that moves, or does not move for that matter. Organization becomes important in this case. Fortunately, all software packages have a browser function so there is some familiarity there, but having a system that works along the way you think is best. Knowing how your mind files items is the key, and each software package offers varying forms. Since each photo editing software package is so similar the issue may just come down to photo paper.

Photo paper

Here again, there are only a few suppliers and each does a good job of producing quality photo paper. The consumer world has a fairly good idea of all the photo paper options available. The consumer also understands that, in the marketplace, they are really just being offered HP photo paper and Epson photo paper. All paper being offered does a fairly good job, although some may fade or turn an unappealing shade of yellow.

Paper options

Regardless of whether an hp photo paper or an Epson photo paper is chosen, paper type is the real choice for the consumer. There are two finish types; glossy or matt. Matt will give a glare resistance factor to the image while a glossy photo finish will see an image “pop” off the paper. Photo paper manufacturers have developed systems that will yield fantastic images and one’s that deal with the past issues of thumb prints and wet ink.

Paper size

Far be it to neglect the consumer that just wants a photo paper 4X6, manufacturers supply both types of paper; glossy and matt for the average photographer. The glossy photo paper is most often chosen for more advanced photo takers while those that just want to hand pictures of the kids around repeatedly will take the matt paper option.

The same but different

Software or pictures, printing has become about as easy as it can get. Each software package is about the same as is the paper. Think simple at the beginning because all the fancy stuff is likely already there and waiting you to get the nerve up to give it a try. The thing is, it’s not all that difficult so pick the one that feels right and go with it.

Photo Editing Software Info

Posted by admin on January 15th, 2010 and filed under photo editing | No Comments »

Photo editors allow you to create and modify bitmap-based graphics and photographic images. This includes tasks such as painting and drawing, color correction, photo enhancement, creating special effects, image conversion, as well as adding text and shapes to graphics. Your image editor should be flexible and intuitive because it will be your most powerful photo project tool. There are many programs available for beginners, to advanced photo editors. But unless they can perform all the tasks above to a certain degree of satisfaction, they should only be considered a companion to your main photo editing application.

Free Photo Editors

If you just starting out with photo editing or your thinking of, then I would suggest first testing out free or inexpensive photo editors to get familiar with the functions. This will also help determine if you will be further interested in other software. These programs are usually shareware or freeware and they’re generally not available in retail software stores. Although shareware and freeware is sometimes not as stable or widely used as retail software, it is often very full-featured and cheap if not free. There are a wide variety of free photo editors available on the internet and all you need to do is find the right one to match your requirements.

Beginner Editors

These photo editors offer core image editing features with an emphasis on ease of use. They often include helpful wizards to walk users through common tasks, and they should include tutorials or handy on-screen tips for getting started. In addition the user interface will be very basic, straightforward and clean. Many also come pre-loaded with one-click presets or professionally-designed templates to assist novice users in achieving polished results right away. Unfortunately, many of the editors designed for beginners sacrifice features for ease of use, reducing the programs overall flexibility. This may result in frustrated users, after they have progressed beyond the initial learning stages and wish to go further with there software only to find they are limited.

Advanced Editors

These photo editors offer the core image editing features along with additional high-end capabilities for professionals. Professional photographers, graphic designers, desktop publishers, Web developers, digital artists, and small business users all need to work with an image editor at some point. Photo editors for professionals or buisness’ will require stability, flexibility, high end features, and should allow for a streamlined workflow among other features. For business who are short on time, or on qualified employees, automated capabilities can be a huge bonus. Although they may increase the initial program price they can save valuable time and money in the long run.

Restoring Old and Worn Out Photographs With Adobe Photoshop Software

Posted by admin on January 13th, 2010 and filed under adobe photoshop | No Comments »

Photos are considered to be priceless by a lot of people. It serves as a great way to preserve memory and it also has this sentimental value especially when the photo is very old. For example, if you have a photo of your grandmother and grandfather together, you have to consider the fact that it will start to wear out sooner or later. It will not be as vibrant as before, and it may even fade in time. Also, the elements can ruin the photos, such as moisture and even sunlight. Adobe Photoshop is the answer for this problem.

There may even be some tears on the photograph. Getting it restored by a professional can cost you a lot of money and you have to consider the fact that you are not really sure about the quality of the restoration procedure.

If you want to restore old photographs that you consider to be priceless, then there is a way where you can do so by yourself. With a scanner and a photo editing software, you can make the picture look as if it was taken and developed yesterday. This particular tool will be able to erase blemishes on the photograph, such as moisture stains, and sun damage. It can also fill out torn pieces on the photograph and even improve the overall look of the picture.

You can also adjust the brightness of the picture if you think it’s too dark. Also, you can adjust the contrast in order to make the picture more crisp and clear. The sharpening tool can also help in making the picture clearer.
